Thought I'd make some fanart on it This was really enjoyable to do, I had so much motivation on this! Didn't take too long either!
I've kind of went back to my more cartoony style, I was in the mood Usually with a realistic movie like this I'd make it all serious but I needed to add something more!
I've been looking through your portfolio and I think you have a ton of potential, but this piece really articulates what is wrong with your over all body of work.
You have captured the unique props and setting appropriately. Hell you even nailed the atmosphere and colors of the environment. You faithfully interpreted the Christopher the prawn. But you totally missed the composition and mood of the film. Dare I say this has too much in yo face impact as if this were a mainstream marvel production.
You blew it on drawing Wilkus. He's a confused desperate mess resisting this adventure business tooth and nail. You portrayed him as a bruiting bad ass ready for action. He's not an action hero or an anti-hero, he is a reluctant hero. You didn't pay much attention to his likeness either. You even missed his awkward mustache. It looks like you drew the character you wanted him to be.
In terms of composition, your characters are dominating the setting. District 9 is an oppressive setting. It needs more real estate. They did name the movie after the settlement for a reason.
I'm hoping you can gain further appreciation to mood from this crit. Like I said your work is all fun and all exciting all the time. It's a double edged sward though. It undermines the appreciation you have for storytelling. Unless I'm missing Niko jecking the mothership.
first of all: awesome movie and a great piece you made there. thats a pat brown like we know it. awesome job with the details, like always and the gun turned out awesome. you did a good job in giving the shrimp more mimic than he had in the movie.
what i miss here is a bit more happening in the background. in your previous pieces there was often stuff that sucked you in. here it seems that nothing really happens. maybe you could have added the mecha from the end of the movie, or some army troops. there happened enough to put it inside the pic. but maybe you also just intended to show the cheerless mood the first half of the movie had.
i hope you come out with another one soon, because theres a lot of matierial for you in there. how about some more action next time?
I find Wilkus' expression to convey a sort of confused rage and determination, which he kinda has towards the latter stages of the movie... But the loss of his moustache is UNFORGIVABLE! Seriously though, I like this piece. I'm terrible at assigning scores to things, so I won't give this a critique thing.
